At BVH we offer a comprehensive Reproduction Service using advanced
techniques and experienced staff to ensure you get the results you are
after.
In-house Progesterone Testing
The single biggest reason for no
pups is a mis-timed mating. By measuring the progesterone level of your bitch we ensure
that mating only occurs at the optimal time, we collect a blood sample and results are received within 2 hours. We offer this service 7 days a week.
Bitch Investigation Service
In the event of reproductive problems we have a full diagnostic work up process that may include "ovarian flushing", examination for ovarian cysts or cancers and uterine biopsy.
Semen Collection and Assessment Service
We offer a collection service, which can be assisted by having an in-season bitch in the Hospital. Most days there is a bitch in the hospital that can be used as a teaser
when collecting semen from your dog. If fertility is a problem we can perform a full investigative program including a detailed semen assessment.
Semen Freezing Service
At Bowral Veterinary Hospital we use the Camelot semen freezing system, Karl Northall and Grant Poolman both have their certificates for use. Karl and Grant as well as Marea Eldridge and Louise Nicholls are all registered by Greyhounds Australia to inseminate greyhounds with frozen semen.
Insemination Techniques
With the use of the IMMULITE machine, Bowral veterinarians are able to measure the serum progesterone levels of in-season bitches, obtaining an accurate result in less than two hours. With the use of this technology bitches can be inseminated at precisely the correct time, maximizing the chance for a successful pregnancy.
Experience has now shown that days in season, discharge colour, vulva size or male interest are very inaccurate methods of assessing when a bitch is ready to mate. Dog breeders using the service of Bowral Veterinary Hospital have found that progesterone assays greatly increase their conception rates. After all puppies are what dog breeding is about.
